For some of us, running or lifting is the perfect exercise. Falling into a cadence feels steady, repetitive, and soothing and the burn from tired muscles is enough to get the workout high going strong. Some of us, on the other hand, would only be caught running away from a squat rack. It’s okay! Plenty have a hard time finding a workout that keeps them engaged. Experts say that anything getting you moving is a good thing, so we did a little research and found the weirdest, most unique workout trends to shake up your fitness!
You’ve taken a yoga class before, right? There’s a number of different versions ranging from hot to restorative to Acro Yoga, but have you ever gone to class with goats? Lainey Morse started this wildly spreading trend in Willamette Valley, Oregon back in August 2016. She brings eight goats to her 30-minute classes ranging from a few weeks to a few years old.
“They just want you to pet them. They have this sense of calm, and they kind of go into a meditative state. Maybe that’s why they work so well with yoga,” Morse said. “It might sound silly, but the way these classes are working, it’s becoming deeper and bigger than I thought.”
They snuggle up to you, walk beneath you, and even add a little resistance by hopping on your back during downward dog! If you’ve been wanting to give yoga a chance but haven’t made your way to a studio, check for Goat Yoga near you!
Swimming is another great way to exercise that benefits your cardiovascular system, respiratory
system, and helps to build muscle! If swimming laps doesn’t get you up and out the door, maybe swimming in a shimmery mermaid fin will get you going!
On top of having the best #WorkoutWednesday post on Instagram, this workout actually has many breaking a sweat! After slipping into a bright, shimmery mermaid fin, you’ll fall into the water and perform exercises such as swimming laps, arm exercises using beach balls and pool noodles, and abs work on the side of the pool. Moving the entire body in unison — as mermaids would do — activates your abs, quads, and glutes more than swimming laps.
Unlike swimming like a mere human, moving the entire body in unison as mermaids would do activates your abs, quads, and glutes! These classes are gaining popularity fast, so see if there’s a pool near you!
We’re not sure who invented these shoes or the crazy workouts behind them, but we’d definitely recommend signing up for the next class! What are they? Kangoos are shoe-like devices that strap to your shoes and help you jump higher! They look similar to roller blades, and people have taken them to the streets and into gyms around the country!
This workout is great cardio and really helps you break a sweat by continuously engaging your legs and core to keep moving and stay stable. Most classes range from 30-60 minutes and there are different types of workouts. Hip-Hop mixes in music, Bootcamp is more focused, and Running takes you outside!
This exercise just so happens to be great for cross training too for those runners who want to get off of that stair climber every now and again. It is much easier on the joints and feet thanks to the Kangoo shoes. Now happening in 22 states, this weird workout is definitely a cardio game changer!
There’s plenty more where those came from, so get out there & find your favorite weird workout!
