No matter how often you wear makeup, there are unwritten beauty rules you should be following and habits you should be adding to your routine. Keeping up with life’s stresses can completely distract you from caring about your skin but if you don’t change up your beauty habits, you may regret it in the future!
Habit 1: SPF
Adding sunscreen to your routine is absolutely vital to everyone’s beauty routine. Sun exposure, especially in Australia, is incredibly damaging if you don’t protect your skin properly. Don’t solely rely on your foundation that contains SPF, this is not enough. Apply SPF every day (yes, even if it’s cloudy) and reapply! Your skin will thank you in the future.
Habit 2: Remove Makeup
We know there will be times in your life where you are exhausted and cannot be bothered taking your makeup off. But this is such a crucial part of your skincare routine! Leaving foundation on your skin or mascara in your lashes overnight can be detrimental – once or twice is okay, but a habit can really cause harm to your face.
Habit 3: Exfoliate
Some people may feel that they don’t need to exfoliate or they’re afraid scrubbing the skin can cause pain/scarring to their face. Exfoliating is extremely important for everybody. If you leave your house every day, your skin is exposed to pollution, dirt, air and wind – we cannot see it on the skin but it is there and can easily clog your pores. Practice the art of exfoliation today.
Habit 4: Drink Water
This is a simple one that doesn’t only increase the quality of the skin, but your overall quality of life. Up to 60% of the human body is made of water so remember to always hydrate your body. This is a necessity!
Habit 5: Throw Away Old Makeup
Once a month, get into the habit of throwing away any makeup that has a weird texture, smell or colour. Any sort of makeup that changes over time should never touch your skin. You should keep track of how long you’ve had a foundation or concealer, this is important as these can cause breakouts or irritation if expired.
