And just like that, 2020 comes to an end. One of the most wildest rides we’ve ever been on globally. However, there’s no reason this should defer us from setting up goals for the new year to come. At the beginning of 2020, there was a lot of talk about setting up your #skingoals – we also had the 28 day skin challenge which everyone enjoyed. Skincare is heavily becoming an important part of everyone’s daily routine so today, we’ll talk about the 10 ways you can elevate your skincare game for 2021.
Wash your face
This may seem like an obvious one but it’s so important! Especially if you’re wearing makeup. No matter how tired or lazy you’re feeling, you MUST remove your makeup before sleeping. 7-8 hours of makeup seeping into your skin is probably the worst thing you could possibly do. Splashing your face with cold water can also do amazing wonders for your skin. Cold water can promote blood circulation which can brighten up your skin. Don’t forget to add cleanser to really get rid of all excess oils and sebum that may not come off with just water.
Add a toner to your routine
A toner may sound like a gimmicky product, another way for the skincare industry to make money, however, it truly has it’s advantages. Using a good quality toner can elevate your skincare routine in more ways than one. After you wash your face, there may be traces of oil, dirt and sebum that are left over. A toner can remove those last traces completely before you start your skincare routine. Not only does it help completely clean, it can also restore your skin’s pH levels and help improve your skin tone. Everyone can benefit from using a toner however, if you have especially oily skin, wear makeup regularly or your skin is prone to acne, you’ll reap it’s benefits more than anyone.
Use a refrigerated roller
Applying cold pressure to your skin has many amazing benefits! It also feels great during summer. Ice rolling is a new trend that has come up on the past year or so and is the next best thing. If you haven’t heard of ice rolling before, now is the time to start jumping on this bandwagon.
Have you had days where you wake up in the morning and your face seems puffy? Maybe you’ve had an extra long sleep or not enough sleep. An ice roller is a great tool that not only wakes you up in the morning, it can help reduce puffiness and reduce redness. All you need to do is place your cleansed roller in your fridge (or beauty fridge) overnight, wake up in the morning and give your skin a good 5 minute pamper – rolling upwards and outwards.
SPF, SPF, SPF!
Using an SPF applies to absolutely everyone, young, old, male or female. There’s nothing more important than protecting your skin from the strong UV rays that we have here in Australia. The misconception is that when there is no sun, no SPF is required. The fact is, with overcast and clouds, the UV rays are even stronger and can cause more damage to your skin since you’re not wearing any SPF. Don’t doubt the power of SPF as although you don’t see the effects instantly, it’ll actually help prevent wrinkles in the future. Wearing sunscreen is definitely a preventative measure that needs to be taken seriously by anyone who is trying to work on their skincare routine.
Pamper your skin, it deserves it
Every now and then, pamper your skin! You can take 30 minutes to an hour from your week to do an at home DIY to treat your skin to some TLC. Go through an extensive facial from home using face masks and sheet masks. Not only are you treating your skin, you can also destress and refresh your mind from a long week. Healthy skin starts from the inside so be sure to treat your mental health as well!
