This day has been forever etched in our minds and embossed in the pages of history as a pivotal moment for our planet. The type of day where everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing when the towers fell. The atrocity wrought on innocent people and heroic first responders during the 9/11 attacks will never be forgotten – as well is those who are still batting illnesses brought on by the experiences of that dark day.
Let us never forget – but not for reasons of hatred and vengeance. Instead, let this day remind us of the preciousness of life and just how fleeting our time here truly is.
The world has changed a lot in the seventeen years that have passed since this this senseless tragedy. Some ways for the worse, others for the better. One thing I do know is that we all have the ability to make the world a better place through our daily actions and the way we treat others. You change the world by first changing yourself, and by developing a better sense of empathy and compassion you can help cause a ripple effect of positive change.
Be a beacon light of optimism, shining bright through the darkness to show others a brighter future for everyone. Understand that we all share this planet together. We can choose to either be ripped apart by our petty differences, or we can start to appreciate and respect the human aspect of humanity. To me, the choice is simple. I choose unity and compassion. I chose hope. I choose to be part of a better tomorrow for everyone.
