April is Autism awareness month. According to the Autism Society, Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech, and nonverbal communication. This month SHOP.COM wants to continue to raise awareness for Autism with the Autism awareness landing page.
Dr. Tamara Weinstein, PT, DPT, MS, CCN who is Market America | SHOP.COM’s Director of Sales & Continued Eduction for Health and Nutrition recently published a blog article regarding Autism awareness. In her blog Dr. Tamara Weinstein breaks down Autism for those of us who are not very familiar stating:
“Because it is a spectrum disorder, each person with autism has a distinct set of strengths and challenges. Some may have significant social, communication, and behavioral challenges that require a lot of help in their daily lives. Others are completely independent and function at a very high level. The ways in which people with autism learn to think and problem-solve can range from highly skilled to severely challenged.”
