Highlighting Black UFOs for Black History Month

For Black History Month, we wanted to give the opportunity to three UFOs to speak on their experiences as black entrepreneurs. So we asked them two questions:

  1. “How Did You Become A Successful UnFranchise Owner?”
  2. “What Advice You Have For Other Or New UFOs?”

Here are their responses.

Chevy Rennals

“How Did You Become A Successful UnFranchise Owner?”

“For me to become a successful UnFranchise Owner, it took a lot of personal growth. Because I was an introvert at first, and I wasn’t sure about anything that had to do with sales or marketing, or you know, I never really set goals before. I didn’t learn any of this in college. So, I had to focus on personal growth, think and grow rich, law of attraction, law of creation, and eventually rebuild my mindset. Something that really helped with that was definitely the audios as well, so JR Ridinger’s the power of identity, and audios like that really helped me to reprogram my mind to get to that mindset where I’m like, ‘I know I can do this,’ as a successful UnFranchise Owner.” – Chevy Rennals

“As A Successful UnFranchise® Owner, Here’s My Advice…”

“As a successful UnFranchise Owner, here’s my advice. Definitely start with personal growth. The mindset is so powerful. Life is not about what happens to us, it’s about what we do with what happens to us, how we react to what happens. And I believe having the right mindset changes our perspective to where we could completely see different angles and maneuver situations differently. And something that would definitely help with that is audiobooks, audios from our company, I would love to recommend Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, the Motivation Manifesto, and so many other books like How To Win Friends and Influence People. Once we have the right mindset, we can do anything that we put our mind to.” – Chevy Rennals

“How Did You Become A Successful UnFranchise Owner?”

“I became a successful UnFranchise Owner by first centering on my ‘Why.’” For me my Why was primarily because I wanted to fix my past, that’s the best way to put it. So that was the first why, and the first thing. The second thing that I did was I latched onto someone I could follow, and in this case, this person that I could follow was my husband, it is my husband. Find somebody who is a leader and also follow the system to a T, that’s how you become a successful UnFranchise Owner, so that’s what I did.” – Brittany Friday

“As A Successful UnFranchise® Owner, Here’s My Advice…”

“As a successful UnFranchise Owner, here’s my advice: Be very patient with yourself. Take it very slowly. Be very honest with your confidence level and where you’re at, but tell everyone where you’re going. And that you’re constantly improving yourself, and each day, take note and celebrate the little win. Because definitely in this business, every little win matters. And we love to celebrate with you.” – Brittany Friday

“How Did You Become A Successful UnFranchise Owner?”

“I became a successful UnFranchise Owner by first and foremost having the right attitude and knowledge. There’s a reason why it’s #1 in the Basic 5 fundamentals to building the business. And also, you have to have that unwavering belief in the UnFranchise system. Trust in that the system is there, it’s proven, it has worked for other individuals, and it can work for yourself also. I would also say I became a successful UnFranchise Owner by showing empathy, showing that you care, showing your team that you believe in them. I feel like we live in a world where not enough people hear that. That people just believe in them. That people care about their dreams and their goals. And I 100% want to make sure that the people that we work with know we believe in them, we trust them, and we want their success.” – Nick Friday

“As A Successful UnFranchise® Owner, Here’s My Advice…”

“As a successful UnFranchise owner, have unwavering belief in yourself and the system. Be able to go with the flow of the emotional rollercoaster that is being an entrepreneur. There’s of course a saying by Martin Luther King Jr.; If you can’t fly, run. If you can’t run, walk. If you can’t walk, crawl. But you have to keep moving forward. And so if you really really focused on emotions, you’re going to have good days, you’re going to have bad days, but no matter what, be consistent. I’m a personal trainer as well, so you have to be consistent and you have to show up and I would really focus on developing the mental callouses in your mind, in your brain. Because again, you’re going to have good days, you’re going to have bad days, but no matter what, you have to show up, you have to get trained, we have to inspire our team, and we have to keep building business.” – Nick Friday

Common Themes

Overall, these three UnFranchise Owners identified two main concepts that helped them become successful: focusing their mindsets and doing so consistently. The mindset that they refer to involves both the belief in yourself and your capabilities, as well as the belief in the UnFranchise Business Plan. You have to be resilient despite your self-doubt and your doubt in the process. Just keep going. And when you keep going, and you keep going, and you keep going once more, you develop the consistency of the mindset. This consistency will keep you own track to developing the patterns of behavior that are productive for building business. Even when Chevy refers to JR’s perspective on the power of identity, he is discussing what it means to consistently reorient your mind to think to yourself: I am capable, and I will succeed.
