What is your WHY? This question is at the very heart of the UnFranchise® Business. Why do you want to become a UFO? Why are you attracted to the life of an entrepreneur? Why do you want to join the UnFranchise Business and work with Market America | SHOP.COM?
Before you become an UnFranchise Owner, you need to identify your WHY. Think of your WHY as the fuel to a car. Without it, the car won’t run. Without a WHY in your UnFranchise Business, your organization won’t run. You’ll be less inclined to perform the result-producing activities and implement the entrepreneurial principles into your life.
So now the question becomes “what is your WHY?” What do you want to get out of this business? For many, the driving force is a life of financial freedom thanks to residual income and the Shopping Annuity®. For others, more time to spend with loved ones and pursue other skills could be their WHY.
After determining your WHY, it’s time to decide when you want to achieve your WHY and the potential obstacles that might come your way during your journey. First off, map out when you want to see results on your path towards achieving your WHY. Set target dates for achievement, measure your progress against the date, and adjust the date to match realistic expectations. Then, determine the obstacles that may come your way and from there, the sacrifices you’re willing to make. These obstacles may be emotional (fear of public speaking, failure, etc.) scheduling (family responsibilities, employment, etc.), and financial (travel and business expenses, training costs, etc.).
Now, it’s time to define your business goals. It’s important to determine how your business goals intersect with your personal goals. Think of business goals and personal goals as a two-way street. Personal goals that involve you and your family fuel your business. In turn, business goals that involve retailing pay for you and your family. It’s a mutual relationship. Here are examples of specific business goals with the UnFranchise.
How will you achieve your goals? Remember when you set target dates for your achievements? One of your target dates should be 90 days. Every UFO should have a 90 day goal. 90 days is a fair amount of time to achieve either a huge goal or a small goal depending on your realistic expectations. The achievement, not the size, matters. Think about what your organization needs to look like in order to reach your 90 day goal. This is where creating an action plan comes in handy. An action plan is a personal list of tasks that you want to accomplish in a 90 day period. Below is an action plan example.
Finally, after your action plan, generate a goal statement. A goal statement is a brief (50-100 words) affirmation of what you would like to achieve by a specific date. Pretend you achieved either some or all of your goals. What would that look like? How would your life be? Write this down and read it everyday or record it on your phone and listen to it frequently. This can help you stay on track. Seeing is believing. Stay focused and keep your eyes on the prize. Below is an example of a goal statement.
