So, you’re building an UnFranchise® Business. You’ve determined your why and created a goal statement. You’ve established a solid foundation. Now, it’s time to create a customer base.
Creating a customer base is necessary for an UnFranchise Business to thrive because it will lead to more residual income. Retailing with your customers builds your business, which leads to profit, ongoing Business Volume, potential business prospects, and belief.
As a UFO, when you generate a frequent and consistent customer base in Market America, it’s called the “Base 10.” The Base 10 equates to a UnFranchise Owner establishing a repeat retail customer base of greater than or equal to 10 customers each purchasing greater than or equal to 30 BV worth of products every four weeks, which would equal a minimum of 300 BV. The following diagram illustrates the “Base 10, Seven Strong” approach, which diagrams 7 UFOs with 10 preferred customers each, and how it can grow your business.
As a new UFO implementing the Base 10, your goal should be to recruit one new customer per week for 12 weeks. Strive to develop 10-15 repeat customers who purchase at least 40 BV per month. This retailing will lead to a strong customer base and regular commission checks.
How should you retail? Retailing is truly up to the UFO doing it. There is no right answer. Whatever works for you is what you should do. However, we have some suggestions. You can show the products firsthand to customers, which may lead them to ask, “What’s that?” With social media, UFOs can leave testimonials on their accounts to spark a conversation. If UFOs decide to specialize and sign up for a University Major like Motives, TLS, nutraMetrix, UFOs will receive all of the exclusive brands and products from those majors as well as the proven sales systems, education, and support materials at their disposal.
That being said, when trying to recruit new customers, we recommend trial size marketing. People are more likely to buy products when they try it first. That’s where trial size marketing comes in. Trial Size Marketing can help find new customers, create new sales, generate more BV, earn more retail profit, and open the door to potential prospects.
Trial Size Marketing involves giving prospects samples of our products and following up with them to see if they would like to continue using them. The diagram below is a great example of how to properly trial size market.
After you have your customers, now it’s time to build a share of those customers. This involves sitting down (physically or virtually) and walking them through the process of how to order products step-by-step. Show you customers how to add products to their Home Shopping List. Install ShopBuddy on their computers, walk them through the Mini Shopping Annuity Assessment, and setting up AutoShip can all go a long way when developing a customer share. Just like the Base 10, your goal should be to build a share of one customer per week for 12 weeks.
One creative way to facilitate customer base building is coupon marketing. The goal is to create life-long relationships with your customers. It’s important to show appreciation towards your Preferred Customers. The perfect way to reward your Preferred Customers is to send them coupons.

Once you set up your coupons in the Current Coupons tab, you can select customers, choose an email template, preview it and then hit send — all from the Coupon Marketing tab.
