Fat Joe continues to prove that people power can do anything.
When we last checked in, Fat Joe was in the middle of his campaign to aid hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico. After the devastation left by Hurricane Maria, the citizens of Puerto Rico were in trouble. Families were separated, food and water were scarce, and homes were destroyed.
Take a look at some of the devastating photos from Puerto Rico. You can see how the hurricane has negatively affected the lives of Puerto Ricans. Flooding was rampant in the streets. Since 80% of Puerto Rico still does not have power, families are forced to wait on lines for hours in order to receive a small amount of fuel. Supplies are being delivered to Puerto Rico, but it can be hard to deliver it to families because of the flooding and debris. The food packages are small, scarce, and do not provide enough nutrition to support a small family. It’s truly heartbreaking.
Knowing all of this, Fat Joe, who is of Puerto Rican and Cuban descent, decided to do something to help the people survive and rebuild. Fat Joe partnered with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, superstar Jay-Z, radio personality and actress Angie Martinez and other influential friends to create and lead a powerful relief effort. Together, they successfully raised 2 million pounds of vital supplies for the people of Puerto Rico that filled five planes. There was also a Relief Concert at the Barclays Center last month which featured Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder, Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, Jennifer Lopez, and many more stars. The concert raised millions for the victims of hurricane and earthquake destruction.
