Have you ever snapped the perfect, Instagram-worthy photo and then couldn’t come up with a caption for it? Or maybe you pieced together a caption, but you see zero to little engagement on your post. With over 95 million photos and videos posted to Instagram every single day, there’s no time for guessing games. Captions can make or break an entire image on Instagram. With so much visual content on social media, Instagram especially, creating engaging captions is essential in order to stand out. Read on for tips on how to write Instagram captions that will get attention and boost engagement.
Write With an Authentic Tone of Voice
Let your personality show through your caption but stay true to yourself as well as your photo. Maintaining an authentic tone of voice shows your audience that there is a real person, with a real point of view, and a real personality behind the smartphone. Instagram captions should be engaging, informative, but also light. A good caption can generate a lot more engagement because it personalizes you. Keep in mind, “Captions provide humor, entertainment and most importantly, context for the images.” (Social Media Today)
Include a CTA (Call To Action)
Each caption should be unique and flow naturally with the image. The same rule also applies to your CTA. If your caption says, “I love shopping online!” it doesn’t make sense to have your CTA be “What’s your favorite hot dog topping?” See where we’re going with this? If you post a photo of your favorite Isotonix product, your CTA could be as simple as “Click the link in bio to find your perfect cocktail,” or “What ways do you keep your health in check? Let me know in the comments!” When including your CTA, mix it up! Don’t get stuck on using the same CTA on every post.
According to Social Media Today, “Instagram posts with a minimum of one hashtag generate 12.6% more engagement than those without.” Why? It’s simple, avid Instagram users search hashtags that interest them such as #fitness #dogsofinstagram. A quick hashtag search is a simple way for users to find a plethora of images relevant to their interests and discover new accounts to follow. Be careful with hashtags though. There is such thing as too many hashtags! The maximum amount of hashtags allowed by Instagram is 30, but 90% of the time that’s entirely too many. Only include hashtags that make sense for your image and caption. #letsnotgethashtaghappy
Social Media Today nailed it, “Whether or not you believe the statistic that 93% of communications are nonverbal, facial expression emojis definitely help to convey the feelings behind your words. For maximum engagement, it’s wise to use emojis which correlate to the content of the image.” Plus, who doesn’t love emojis? A perfect example would be if you’re posting your favorite TLS Shake creation, include emojis of the fruits you added to your shake. It makes the caption stand out!
