International Women’s Day 2022

As a community full of empowered women, it is pertinent that we use International Women’s Day to recognize some powerful women who work in our corporate offices! But first, do you know the origins of International Women’s Day?

international women's day

Origins

A total of 15,000 women assembled in the streets of New York City calling for shorter work hours, better pay, and the right to vote. This was in 1908; women’s suffrage was granted in 1920. The march was marked a year later as the first National Woman’s Day in the United States only.

In 1910, Clara Zetkin spoke at the International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen with the suggestion that the event be recognized internationally. One year later, the first International Woman’s Day was celebrated in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland, accompanying the United States.

The United Nations began to recognize the day in 1975, and initiated the concept of an annual theme in 1996. The theme for 2022 is the encouragement to #BreakTheBias:

Imagine a gender equal world.

A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

A world where difference is valued and celebrated.

Together we can forge women’s equality.

Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.

Women Managers Of Market America

Claire Ni, Country Manager of Taiwan

What is your position in Market America?

I am currently in charge of Market Taiwan as the General Manager since Aug. 2012. My mission is to make sure the daily operation, legal, and compliance, as well as marketing initiatives, match and support the demand of UnFranchise business and growth.

What is your experience as a woman employed at Market America?

It’s an honor and has been a pleasure working for Market America, and assisting our field UFOs. Our ideas, initiatives in different departments and areas are always welcomed, supported, and recognized by our company executives. There is no glass ceiling at all, women and men are all fairly treated and well recognized for a good job done. Though we have been in the 21st century for more than 20 years, sometimes I still hear from my friends about the invisible barrier of company management when it comes to gender. I am very grateful that it doesn’t exist in Market America at all. On this very special day, I would like to say, Market America is one of the best demonstrations of employers without prejudice of gender!

I feel blessed to be a part of this company where both male and female mentors have offered me their honest guidance, feedback, support, and encouragement. I appreciate a diverse team of both genders. My male mentors have encouraged me to take risks, look at the bigger picture and never let perfection get in the way of progress. I am thankful to all my role models and to be a part of an incredible business that allows all people to grow no matter their status or gender.

Jacqueline Ballard, Marketing Manager of Australia

What is your experience as a woman employed at Market America?

After the birth of my two babies, this incredible company not only supported my return to the workforce but allowed me to return part-time, with flexible hours. Nothing could be more empowering than getting the best of both worlds – being able to raise my girls and re-gain my own identity in the corporate world. Thank you for continuing to support all us boss babes!
