We all know how to take a decent selfie by now. But taking a photo that perfectly showcases your makeup is not as easy as it sounds. Today we are sharing makeup photography tips and tricks so you can become a pro at showing off your Motives makeup look.
It should come as no surprise to hear that lighting is the number one issue when it comes to makeup photos. You have spent hours creating a beautiful makeup look, don’t ruin it with bad lighting. You want to avoid harsh light, they can cause a glare and also bring out any negative features like skin texture. Note that a flash on a camera is the equivalent of shining an extremely bright light right in your face as the picture is captured. Try to avoid using a flash when photographing makeup.
Natural light is by far your best choice! But avoid direct sunlight as it can have a similar effect as a bright light bulb. Instead, try morning or evening light, a cloudy day. For inside photos try finding a room with a lot of sunlight, artificial lighting can sometimes give the skin an odd tint. If you want to take your makeup photography seriously we suggest investing in some lighting. If you are hesitant, you can buy an affordable ring light to attach to your phone as a way to try out the idea of using professional lighting. But if you are all in and want to completely transform your makeup photography we suggest a full-size ring light to use with a camera.
Less is more when it comes to your background. When looking at a photo you want your eyes to instantly go to your amazing makeup look opposed to a busy background. Keep things simple and clean. Ideally, you would want to take your photo in front of a white or black wall, here is a canvas you might find helpful to use as a backdrop.
