This week’s WCW (Woman Crush Wednesday) Motives® Beauty Advisor feature is dedicated Melanie Romero! Melaine is a valuable Motives® Partner! Read on for a glimpse into her growth through working with Motives and how she started her business at 14 in the Apprentice Program.
1. How were you introduced to Motives?
I was introduced to Motives when I was 13 years old through my mom who was a fairly new UnFranchise Owner at the time. I began wearing makeup at 13 and would bring home some products I had bought from Claire’s and show it to her. She had told me that if I was going to wear makeup, then I was going to wear a high-quality line.
2. What made you want to learn more and align yourself with Motives Cosmetics?
After about two months of wearing Motives, my mom asked if I was interested in taking some Motives training classes. I agreed since I enjoyed the products so much. We went to our first Motives class in Charlotte a few days before I turned 14. After going through a custom blend class, my mom noticed that I had done a much better job than her. Even the trainer pointed it out. It was through my mom’s encouragement, support, and belief that made me want to pursue working with Motives Cosmetics. And it made me really excited hearing from the Motives Trainer that there was a teen program I was able to work in before turning 18.
3. How have you leveraged education & business events to build your belief/ propel your success?
Education is the only way I was able to grow in this business. The Motives Apprenticeship Program gave me the knowledge to become a successful UnFranchise Owner. I had the ability to go to all of the Motives training numerous times. I also went to every UBP, Local, District, World Conference, and International Convention. Basically, I attended the Market America University for 4 years, and my mom was fully supportive of this. She always told me she would rather pay a couple hundred dollars for training and have me make a 6-figure residual income. Rather than paying tens of thousands of dollars for college and not knowing if I would become successful and make money in whatever degree I studied. I gained so much knowledge and experience that I believed I was going to be successful no matter what as long as I followed the system in place. Learning entrepreneurship – which is rarely taught in schools – at such a young age gave me an independent mindset. I was able to ignore people who told me I was too young to know how to manage a business. I proved them wrong by having successful events and having an entrepreneurial posture.
4. What do you feel is the best way to expand your Motives team?
I feel that the best way to expand my Motives team is through applying the education that they learn in training. Yes, it’s great getting certified and learning about our amazing line. But you need to put what you learned into place. Start doing beauty events, challenges, and wearing the line in general. Having my partners embody Motives Cosmetics will help them become successful.
5. Is there anything that you’d recommend others to do/leverage as a beauty entrepreneur in order to maximize success?
What I would recommend others to do is to take the Apprenticeship Program seriously and to utilize it. The Apprenticeship Program gives you the opportunity to mold the minds of young girls. That they can be entrepreneurs and independent in a way that’s fun and exciting for them. Having them be educated in Motives and the business in general at a young age makes them prepared to be successful UnFranchise Owners and Beauty Advisors in the future. Which in turn will your help your business grow and help you become successful because now you have experienced partners in your organization.
6. What are you most excited about in regards to long-term goals leveraging Motives & Market America?
What I’m most excited about is achieving my goal at becoming a young bilingual Motives Trainer. Being a Latina millennial gives me the advantage of having younger people relate to me. I would be able to work and support the Latino Community more as well. I would have the opportunity to train my newest partners who only speak Spanish but still want to become successful Beauty Advisors
All in all, I’m very thankful for my mom and Market America for introducing me to another way I can become successful in life, have fun while doing it, and make other people successful and glamorous too!
