Social Media Monday: Boost Business With Instagram’s “Go Live With A Friend”

Last week, Instagram rolled out an update that includes an incredible feature: Go Live With A Friend.  After launching a test group back in August, Instagram has finally opened up their latest addition to the public! See more about the latest update and 5 ways to use it for your business in this week’s Social Media Monday!

What is “Go Live With A Friend”?

In Instagram’s words:

“Live video helps you share in an authentic way, but sometimes it can be intimidating when you’re on your own. It’s easy to add a guest while you’re broadcasting. Simply tap the new icon on the bottom right and tap “Add” to invite anyone who’s currently watching. Once they join, you’ll see the screen split into two and your friend pop up right below you.”

Here’s how you use it:

  1. On your Instagram home screen, open the camera on the upper left-hand side.
  2. Select the Live option, as you normally would.
  3. Tap the two happy faces icon on the bottom right, and tap “Add” to invite anyone who’s currently watching your Live Story.
  4. Once they join, the screen is split into two, and your guest will pop up right below you on the video feed.

You can change your added person during the broadcast, or they can leave the video on their own if they choose. After it’s ended, you (the host) can choose to upload the video to your Story or discard it.

Boosting Business Using “Go Live With A Friend”

1. Q + A

Submitting questions or addressing them as they’re typed by Live viewers is now a thing of the past! With the new co-streaming addition, you can now have a more engaging interview or Q + A session!  You can choose to swap between different clients with questions, influencers within your network, and even your audience!  This is a great tool to use as a follow-up after new products are released or a major event ends.

2. Giveaway + Contest Announcements

Yes, you can post an image with creative fonts to introduce a giveaway.  But, how much more exciting would it be to announce your campaign with a live co-hosting video? Since both of you will be Live, both followings will be able to view the broadcast, increasing your visibility. Grab a partner to help host a giveaway or contest and go create a little extra buss + a whole lot of engagement!

3. Round-Ups

Round-ups are a great way to boost engagement + gain followers on Instagram! Gather a few people to talk about one subject or a few that group together well, then have your co-hosts share a post to create some buzz. This can help you connect with influencers and grow your audience, but it also adds a lot of value to readers since they can get a lot of information from different sources in one post. Try swapping out your co-hosts during a live session and see how your customers and followers like it!

There’s no denying that video is the latest trend in Social Media, but live videos are catching up quickly! If you’re shy about going live on your own, teaming up with someone to do a live story may be a more comfortable way in. Try using these tips to see what works, and let us know what you love or don’t love about the newest upgrade!
