Social Media Monday: Follow Hashtags on Instagram

Instagram continues to grow in popularity as the platform regularly evaluates the user experience and adds features to enhance that experience. Anyone who uses Instagram regularly knows that hashtags are key to discover-ability on the platform. In mid-December, Instagram introduced the ability to follow hashtags. This feature is great for every day use, allowing users to follow hashtags of interest such as #fitness, #dogsofinstagram, etc. As the 2018 Market America World Conference fast approaches, this feature is key to following along on social media during the event. Read on to find out how.

As far as user experience, following a hashtag is just like following a friend. The hashtags you follow will appear on your Instagram feed alongside your friends’ images. In the image bubble of the profile picture, you will see a red #, letting you know it’s a hashtag that you follow. During MAWC next week, following the official event hashtag #MAWC2018 will keep you on top of all things happening at the event. There are so many things going on at once during MAWC, by following the hashtag on Instagram, you won’t miss out on any of the excitement or activities such as booth panels or Loren Ridinger visiting the concourse. Make sure to follow #MAWC2018 before heading to Miami next week!

To follow a hashtag:

Tap any hashtag (example: #flower) you see on Instagram.
Tap Follow. Once you follow a hashtag, you’ll see its photos and videos appear in places like stories, feed and in the Following section of your profile.
To unfollow a hashtag, tap the hashtag and then tap Following. Learn more about searching for hashtags and using hashtags on Instagram.
