Social Media Monday: Using Graph Search to Build Your Business

On January 15th, Facebook unveiled a brand new search experience called Graph Search. The tool, which is now available in beta, is an exciting development that will allow users to search – no, discover – places, photos, people and interests that are relevant to them.  So what does this all mean for UnFranchise® owners like you? Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know.


What is Graph Search?
Plain and simple, Graph Search allows you to search for people, places, photos, and interests on Facebook. Since all results are based on your connections and provided information, Graph Search makes it easier to locate what matters most to you. Have you ever wanted to find out which of your friends live in Colorado and love snowboarding? With Graph Search, now you can get precise answers to questions like that and more. If you ask a question that can’t be answered from your connections, Graph Search will conduct a web search and display relevant links from all on the same page.

How do I use it?
Since Graph Search is only available to a limited number of people, the first thing you need to do is sign up to be on the Graph Search waiting list. Once you receive a notification that you can access the tool, try your hand at searching for something using natural language (i.e. typing the way you talk). Want to know which of your friends are interested in fitness and live in New York? Simply type, “friends who are interested in fitness and live in New York.”  Visiting a Dallas and looking for the best place to get a steak? Try searching, “steakhouse restaurants in Dallas my friends have liked.”

How will Graph Search benefit my business?
It goes without saying that in order to build your business, you need both team members and customers. But how do you find them? Asking friends and family for referrals might work in the beginning, but you will soon exhaust your network. That’s where Graph Search comes in; whether you’re looking for friends of friends who live in your hometown and work in sales, or for connections who live in Chicago and love health and nutrition, Graph Search can help you locate individuals you share a connection with and who fit your criteria.
