Strength Training at Home: Where Do You Start?

We know there are plenty of perks that come with strength training, but what if you don’t have access or don’t feel comfortable heading to the gym? Good news — you can definitely do effective strength training at home!

Benefits of Strength Training at Home

There are lots of reasons why it may be more practical or simply more comfortable for you to work out at home. Maybe you are on a budget, maybe you don’t have a gym nearby, or maybe you just need a little practice before you’re ready to step into a gym full of people — whatever the reason, you can still see results!

  • It’s low cost.
There are no gym fees! You only buy the equipment you need & feel comfortable, plus you don’t have to worry about whether or not the last guy wiped it down.
  • Work out anytime.
You can exercise on your own schedule, and without worrying about travel time! Just pop up that fitness tracker, get your equipment ready, and get ready to sweat.
  • Go at your own pace.
You can work out without feeling self-conscious, and this is especially great for beginners! There’s no pressure to keep up with those around you, so you can get comfortable without feeling rushed into picking up too much weight.

Equipment to Get Started

Once you’re ready to start putting together your strength training workout, the first step is to find a place in your home where you can exercise without interruption. You’ll want to find an area that has enough room for you to move around as needed and a door, just in case you have animals or little ones that could get in.

You don’t need to invest in much right away, but there are a few item that may be helpful:

Instead of using dumbbells or a kettle ball, you can also improvise by using water jugs or sandbags. A step or bench can also be replaced with a very sturdy and safe chair, although you’ll want to test it first!

The bottom line is that you don’t have to shell out hundreds of dollars per year to meet your goals! With a few pieces of equipment and a good program, you’re on your way to building lean muscle mass, burning calories, and boosting your metabolism – as long as you have your eating in order, of course!

Just remember to talk to your doctor before you start any new fitness or exercise program.
