Surprisingly Effective Skincare Tips For Men

Hey guys – skincare is not as involved and time-consuming as you think… but it is important. So, to help you get started on your way to smooth skin and a clearer complexion, we have a few tips that every man should know for great skin.

1. Know your skin type

The key to picking the best products for your skin type is knowing your skin type. Fortunately, there’s a ridiculously easy way to identify it. This is known as the “tissue test.”

First, wash your face. With a mild cleanser like LDV Hommes Cleansing Gel, pat dry, and wait five minutes. Then hold a facial tissue to your face for a few minutes, and take a look… If it’s dry, you’re probably on the dry or sensitive side. If it’s oily, you have an oily skin type, and if it’s just a little moist, you have combination skin.

2. Buy your OWN products

It’s time to stop sharing with your girlfriend/sister/roommate. Just because you think it’s fine does not mean it’s meant for you.

Actually, the difference between men and women’s skin care goes beyond the packaging alone. Men typically have more oil glands and tougher skin. This is why men’s skincare lines are tailor-made for men. Shop accordingly and your skin will thank you for it.

3. Wash twice daily

Most dermatologists recommend washing your face twice a day. Do this morning and night and your skin will be in tip top condition. Find your favorite cleanser or skin-safe soap to use as just splashing water doesn’t cut it!

4. Use benzoyl peroxide for pimples

This tried and true method is still the best for fighting pesky blemishes and acne. Make sure you replace this every 2 years. It becomes less effective the older it gets. If this isn’t working for you, try a product with sulfur.

5. Exfoliate two to three times a week.

Shaving is a great exfoliator, but to help the rest of your face get these benefits, exfoliate two to three times a week. Rub on, then rinse off the exfoliator just before shaving to clear off any dead skin cells that could cause an uneven shave, ingrown hair, or more of a chance of cutting yourself.

6. Shave

Keep your razor out of moist areas where bacteria lingers and remember to change the blade regularly.

If you do not shave, we highly suggest a hydrating beard oil, such as LDV Hommes Conditioning Beard Elixir to keep everything soft, touchable and groomed, and the skin underneath soothed. If you want to look your best, apply immediately after cleansing—just watch out for products like coconut oil, which is more waxy and can lead to acne.

7. Don’t forget SPF …maybe eye cream

Sunscreen is absolutely essential for healthy skin. Think of it this way – If you expose your skin every day to sun, after a while it will get dull, fade, and crack. No one wants that to happen to their face. Apply a moisturizer with SPF every morning to keep skin hydrated and protected—it may seem like an extra step, but with skin cancer being what it is, it’s more necessary than you think.

Finally, an eye cream can give noticeable results in about three weeks. You’ll love the brighter look!
