Happy Emotional Wellness Month! Our “normal” life still uncertain and we’re attempting to be aware of our stress levels while keeping up with our hectic lives. It’s more important than ever to take a minute and focus on emotional wellness.
Ten Tips for Emotional Wellness
- Get Quality Sleep – Sleep is something that we often neglect if we have busy lifestyles, but it’s vital to your well-being. The way you function, think, and feel overall when you’re awake depends on the quality of sleep you’re getting. It’s during sleep that your body presses the “reset” button and prepares you for a new day!
- Take Care of Your Physical Health – Along with the correct nutrition, physical activity is beneficial to everyone! It can prevent you from developing certain diseases and reducing stress as well.
- Be Emotionally Aware – It’s important to address what makes you angry, frustrated or sad. Once you understand those triggers, you can address those things and attempt to change them.
- Manage Stress – This goes along with being emotionally aware. Different things like exercise, meditation and supplements can help you manage stress.
- Stay Connected – You may not be seeing family or friends as much these days, but it’s very important to have support and contact with loved ones. Jump on FaceTime, Zoom or Skype and keep get that keep the personal connections intact.
- Be Selfish – This one is all about you, take time to do things that you enjoy instead of always focusing on others. It can become overwhelming when you don’t take time for yourself. Whether you like spa days, reading, running, spending time with your pets or just watching a movie and relaxing, do you.
- Be Thankful – Practicing gratitude forces you to think of all the good in your life. By doing this, it will help you to not focus so much on the negative and be more optimistic.
- Meditate – If you are looking for a new hobby, this is the time to take up meditation! Meditating your way through stress is a quick and easy method to relieve your mind. Take a good 5-10 minutes out of your day and sit in silence while deep breathing. Have a mantra that you can repeat in your mind, something positive and motivating like ‘I feel at peace’. Relax and be with yourself for a moment and you’ll feel a little bit better about your day.
- Be flexible – The only constant in life is change. Be aware of this and know that things will come up that will throw you off of schedule. That’s okay and it’s completely normal.
- Don’t Worry About Things you Cannot Change – Life will happen and little things will come up that upset you. That’s okay, but know that you can’t control everything. Save your worrying for things in your life that you can change.
