Think Green When you Spring Clean

Nothing feels quite as satisfying as coming home to a clean house. Before your annual spring-clean, we encourage you to make simple, green changes to your cleaning habits. These changes can make big differences to your health and to the environment.

Green cleaning is the process of choosing cleaning products that are better for people and the environment. Sounds like a win-win to me – start your Spring off on a clean note!

Declutter & Organize

One of the joys of this time of year is reducing, re-purposing and recycling. To some of us anyways! Getting rid of things that you no longer use or need is the first step in the process. Go through all of the places that accumulate junk – places that you decide to “get to later.” Try not to get overwhelmed, you don’t have to do it all at once, but do be mindful and practical. If it is a top that you haven’t worn in years, it’s time to go!

Once you have your pile of unneeded items, see if there are any items that can be repurposed and donate the rest. The important piece to this step is organizing. Get the right organizational tools for your home to keep this clean look going.

Ditch the Air Fresheners

While cleaning homes in the Spring is associated with a fresh, crisp scent, we don’t need synthetic air fresheners for that. First and foremost, open your windows, ventilate your home and breathe in the fresh air. You would be surprised at home much this will rejuvenate your home. If you are looking for more of a true scent, use essentials oils and keep fresh cut flowers.

Switch to Eco-Friendly Products

Why scrub your floors, counters and bathrooms with products containing harsh chemicals when you can get the job done with toxic-free products? If you’re like me, you want to practice “green” habits but don’t always have the time to whip up homemade solutions. These are some of our favorite cleaning brands that can be delivered right to your door so you’re ready on day 1 of spring cleaning: SNAP, Global Care, Method and Seventh Generation.
