When you think of spring cleaning, you probably picture a day spent throwing away clutter and junk around the house, spring cleaning can do so much more! Spiffing your kitchen and pantry can actually help get you back on track after a long winter, and we’ve got our best tips for a TLS® Spring Clean below.
How an Organized Kitchen Can Help
A clean, organized kitchen can help you create healthy eating habits, promote weight loss, and will make sticking to those habits less stressful throughout your week. Go ahead – break out that garbage bin and embrace a healthier kitchen with these TLS® tips to guide you!
Open It Up + Inspect
Grab a garbage bag and take a look at whatever foods you have sitting in Tupperware containers, bulky boxes, or hiding in drawers. Toss anything that’s:
- Looks questionable
- Lost its color or smell (e.g. spices, fruits, veggies, sauces)
This is also a good time to pull out your TLS® Meal Plan and toss anything that doesn’t fit into the healthy habits you’re trying to create. It can’t tempt you if it isn’t there, right?
Replace Boxes with Clear Containers
Keeping food in cardboard boxes not only takes up valuable space, but it also makes it easier to overeat! Say you pour yourself a bowl of cereal. If you aren’t paying attention to how much you poured the first time, you might be inclined to pour another bowl since you can’t quite see how much of a dent you made the first time and, before you know it, it’s gone!
One of the best ways to get ahead is by swapping your boxes for airtight, clear containers. Now, you’ll have a better idea of your serving sizes and you’ll know when you are running low on your healthy snacks and need to head to re-up!
Rework Your Spices
If you caught our post on condiments, you know how they can sneak some serious sugar into your diet! That’s why TLS® emphasizes the use of spices and herbs to flavor foods instead. Plus, they taste amazing!
But, having spices isn’t enough – especially when you’re trying to change habits! On top of tossing the sugar-laden sauces in your fridge, it’s a good idea to organize your spices and place them in an easy-to-reach area. When they’re easy to find, you’re more likely to use them – easy, right?
Fill the Fridge with Healthy Foods
Now that your boxes and freezer-burned spinach you bought last September aren’t hogging it up, it’s time to put that freezer + fridge to work! Replace the empty spaces in the freezer with healthy items like frozen fruit, chicken breast, veggies, or fish! This way, when you have those nights you’re too drained to cook, you have easy ingredients like frozen cauliflower rice and chicken that make it easy to skip the take-out and stay on track!
This is also a good time to set aside individual space in your fridge dedicated to fruits, veggies, meal prep containers, and grab-and-go breakfasts! The foods you have are likely to be the foods you eat, so now is your chance to set yourself up for TLS® success.
