Reaching Your Dreams Through Goals by Charlie Baer
We all have dreams about what we want in life. As UnFranchise Owners, we encourage you to dream big and go after your dreams. Dreams are much easier to achieve when you make them your goal and you understand the action required to reach your goal. Goals focus your knowledge and let you organize your time, so you can make the most of life. They are also a way to motivate you to take action. The most important benefit of goal setting isn’t reaching the goal; it’s becoming a better you to reach your goal.
This is a great time of the year to re-evaluate or set new goals. Have you ever sat down and thought about what you really want? If you get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, your dreams tend to be put on the back burner. Think about what you love to do, for a living or for fun. What would you like to accomplish, what would you do if money wasn’t an issue? When you have answered these questions, you have a goal that motivates you. Motivation is the key to achieving your goals. Remember, no goal is too big or out of the question; you just need to take consistent action toward your dreams and goals.
Your dreams and goals need to be specific. What do you want? If you are vague, you will not have sufficient direction to reach your goal.
Determine a time frame in which you will reach your goal and make it realistic. If you make it a challenging goal, you will raise the bar to achieve it. Setting a time frame allows you to measure your success. You will become better each time at reaching your goal in the time frame you have set.
What will you do differently to reach your goals? People will set a goal but continue to do the same thing every day, expecting to reach the new goal. If you continue to do the same thing, you will have the same results as before, and you won’t achieve what you want.
Writing your goals down make them real. You have no excuse for forgetting about it. I like to put my goals in areas that I know I will see them multiple times during the day. Read your goals a few times every day to keep you always thinking about what you want to achieve.
The action plan is a critical step in the process. You need to know what action you will take each month, week and, most importantly, every day to reach your goal. When you break it down into small daily steps, the goal is easier to visualize. By writing out the steps necessary and crossing off each one as you complete it, you realize you are making progress toward your goal.
Be accountable to someone other than yourself. Accountability helps you stay on the path. Remember, goals are not reached overnight, and consistent action toward your goals is the key to achieving them. Your goal might stay the same, but your plan of action will change as you adjust to reach your goal. Stay the course and you will continue to improve at goal setting and achieving your goals.
