Market America Mobile and iOS4

Are you currently running iOS4 on your Apple iPhone 3G, 3GS or shiny new iPhone 4? With the recent launch of iOS4, the Apple iPhone added in a number of great new features and enhancements to an already superb phone.

While I’ve personally tried out iOS4 on my previous iPhone 3G and on my new iPhone 4, I can personally attest that both phones will run differently.  If you have the 3GS model, it runs everything great — minus the improved camera and video capabilities along with the retina display (which is amazing)!

A breakdown by model:

iPhone 3G

  • Create folders for applications (12 applications per folder)
  • Phone feels a little snappier
  • No video recording capabilities
  • No improved camera with flash
  • No retina display
  • No image resizing on the fly

iPhone 3GS

  • Create folders for applications (12 applications per folder)
  • Multi-tasking
  • Phone is fast, but not as fast as the iPhone 4.
  • Video recording, but not in 720p
  • No camera flash
  • No retina display
  • No image resizing on the fly

iPhone 4

  • Create folders for applications (12 applications per folder).
  • Multi-tasking
  • 35% faster than the iPhone 3GS
  • Video recording at 720p
  • 5 megapixel camera with flash (the picture above was taken with an iPhone 4)
  • Retina display to improve pixel density
  • Image resizing on the fly
  • Improved phone reception

Over the weekend, some people emailed me asking what they should do regarding upgrading to iOS4. If you plan to upgrade to iOS4, here are a few issues you may experience and possible solutions.

  • Market America Mobile launched, but crashed when I performed a search (solution: delete the application and re-download from iTunes).
  • My 3G iPhone runs sluggish (solution: don’t upgrade to iOS4 on the 3G model, as these features may not run optimally on this model and may cause the phone to run slow).

While not all of the solutions will fix your problem, the most important thing to remember about upgrading to any new operating system is that not all applications will work flawlessly out of the gate. That’s why it is a good idea to not upgrade yet, until an application has been released that supports for example, iOS4. With the operating being so new, companies have just started releasing their retooled versions to take advantage of the new iOS4 from Apple.

If you have already upgraded and are experiencing issues, try and downgrade to version 3, until a new version of Market America Mobile has been released that is built to take advantage of the new iOS4 for iPhone 4.

Are you experiencing issues running any apps in iOS4? Leave a comment with the name of the app.
