If you missed the last episode of The Beauty Filter on Instagram, Jackie and myself grabbed some Pumpkin Spice Lattes and debunked some popular beauty myths. With social media, it’s easy to be misled with misinformation. It’s important to do your research and provide that expertise to your customers. Here are some skincare myths you may have fallen for!
Pores open and close.
This is a myth. Yes, it feels amazing when your esthetician steams your face. But steaming your face or jumping in the sauna won’t “open your pores. ” Pores do not open and close. They do not contain muscles in order to open and close, but they can dilate (or stretch). Pores appear bigger when clogged. To achieve smaller pores, direct your customers to good cleansers and exfoliants like Lumiere de Vie Hommes Exfoliating Face Scrub or Timeless Prescription Facial Exfoliating Cleanser.
Oily skin does not need moisturizer.
This is a BIG myth. Many people confuse hydration with oil production. Oily skin can still be dehydrated, and more oil will be produced to compensate for the lack of hydration. Everyone needs a moisturizer. If your customer has oily skin, recommend a gel-based moisturizer.
All SPF is the same.
Another myth. There are two types of sunscreens: chemical and physical. Chemical sunscreen, like Lumiere de Vie’s Daily Brightening Broad Spectrum SPF 50, absorbs into the skin to protect from within. It absorbs UV rays, converts the rays into heat, and releases them from the body. Physical sunblock sits on top of the skin and reflects the sun’s rays. The minerals titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are the main active ingredients in physical blocks. Both are essential for healthy skin!
