How to Share Your Business: The Social Media Posting Policy

By this point, you understand the value social media brings to your business, so you know that this holiday season, social shopping will play a key role in your success. However, there are some important rules to remember when using social media, including how and where you advertise your personal SHOP.COM Portal and mini-sites.

Over the past several weeks the Market America social media team has received reports from Partner Stores about Shop Consultants that are posting and advertising on those Stores’ Facebook Pages. While it might seem like this is a good idea, our Partner Stores frown on this practice. In certain instances it can hurt our relationships with these retailers. Taking this course of action is also a violation of the Market America Career Manual and our Partner Stores’ policies.

Two examples of this type of advertisement are:

  • “Get additional savings by going through www.SHOP.COM/[MYWEBPORTAL]“
  • “Earn Cashback from this store through my Portal at www.SHOP.COM/[MYWEBPORTAL]“

While the Internet is a great marketing tool, following the rules is essential in order for you to successfully build your business. These rules also cultivate good relationships with  Market America’s Partner Stores, and ensure that they do not wish to leave the program.

Independent Shop Consultants who promote themselves on Partner Store Facebook Pages can have their SHOP.COM Portals suspended immediately without prior notice and will be subject to Corrective Action as outlined in Chapter 14, Section 1 of the Career Manual.

We encourage Independent Shop Consultants to use social media to help grow and promote their businesses, but we ask that you do so responsibly. If you have any questions on best practices, please feel free to drop us a line at socialmedia@shop.com.
