Social Media Monday: Pinning for Business

The ma Blog Team LOVES to share our favorite tips and tricks for building your business – especially when it comes to social media. So, every Monday, we share some of the latest tips, and the answers to our most frequently asked questions. Today we’ll be tackling how to use Pinterest to bring customers to your SHOP.COM site.

We’ve talked about Pinterest a time or two here on the ma Blog. This social media platform made a splash when it went live, and has kept up momentum at a fair pace. It’s easy to use and fun to share – which creates an addictive experience for users and followers. However, this tool can seem overwhelming when using it to grow a business.

First and foremost, you need a Pinterest account. Just visit Pinterest.com. You can create an account using your Facebook or Twitter account, or choose to do create one via email. For easy login, we recommend using one of your social media accounts. Be sure to give yourself a profile picture and fill in your bio! Even more importantly, select “About” and choose “Pin It Button” to add a Pinning button directly to your browser. Now, you can start Pinning for business.

Remember that tools like Pinterest are visual. Go shopping on your SHOP.COM site! Market America products, OneCart products and Partner products are all great to Pin. Once you’ve found a great product to share with your Pinterest followers, click the “Pin It” button. This will pull up a new page of images for you to select from.

Make sure that when you’re selecting which page image to Pin, you choose a size that will fill the Pin’s image block – like this 300 x 300 image. The image should show off the product, and catch the eye of other Pinterest users.

Choose one of your pre-existing boards (1), or create a new one to Pin the image to. The board name should be fun and catchy, and should reflect the items you’re Pinning to it. Titles like “Party Essentials” and “Makeup Must Haves” let other users know what they’ll be looking at. Fill in the description conversationally (2), but try to include trends and search terms to help users find your Pin when they’re using the Pinterest Search feature.

You can also click “Facebook” to share to another social network (3), if you use your Facebook login to access Pinterest. This will help encourage your friends and contacts to follow you on Pinterest.

After successfully Pinning to Pinterest, you can share your Pin through Twitter or Facebook, or choose to see your Pin.

Pins you set from your SHOP.COM page will automatically lead Pinterest users back to your site. All they have to do is click the picture (which is what Pinterest is all about!). It’s that simple. Pinterest is a great way to expose product images to individuals you don’t know. Get them interested with catchy, descriptive captions, and they’ll be more likely to click through. You don’t have to promote your business in the text at all – the click leads them right through to your business!

Stay tuned! Every Monday we’ll be sharing more of our favorite inside techniques for using social media to grow your business. You can also find out more by checking out last week’s Social Media Monday post: Sharing Facebook Posts and Products.
