Social Media Monday: Quick Tips for Using Images on Social Media

Today we’re sharing quick tips for making the most of images on social media! Visual content has become more important than ever to your social media strategy. While there are a million different ways to utilize photos, videos, and graphics on social media, we’re sharing some of our favorite tips you can put to use ASAP to enhance your social media presence. Are you ready to see what they are?

Tip: When posting to Facebook, don’t forget a photo!

Just as this article states, if a picture is worth a thousand words, on Facebook, “a picture is worth a thousand text-only posts.” Images are more engaging that text-only posts, and tell a story to your audience in seconds flat – without requiring that they read several paragraphs of text. Follow the “don’t tell if you can show” rule when it comes to photos: if including a photo with your update will help to illustrate what you’re trying to say, snap a picture and include it with your post. Easy as that!

Tip: When posting to Instagram, make your photo count!

The lifespan of social media posts may vary greatly, but one thing rings true: whatever it is that you’re posting, make it count! In this article, the author talks about the lifespan and overall visibility of an Instagram post. “Your photo on Instagram may only get seen once, so make it a good one. Many of us scroll through our followers’ photos at one point during the day….and I’m usually good with seeing a photo on Instagram once, so I usually scroll through my feed only up until the last photo I saw.” The take away: post good photos people will remember, engage with, and comment on, because they’re probably only going to look at it once!

Tip: Make the most of posting images to Twitter by tweeting more than one photo at a time.

You already know that when you post an image to Twitter, your followers will see a preview of it in their Twitter stream. This is huge – literally – so making the most of this feature is a no-brainer! We found this article with tips for making your Twitter images stand out, and one of our favorites was tweeting multiple photos at one time. “Adding multiple images to a tweet makes it even more eye-catching and tells a detailed story.” To learn how to attach multiple photos to a tweet, click here.

Tip: Measure twice, crop once!

Just as one social media network is different from another, so are their image-size requirements. An image that works for Twitter might not be the right size for Pinterest, and what works for Pinterest might not be the right size for Facebook. So what’s an UnFranchise Owner to do? Refer to this handy-dandy image guide, of course! Here you’ll find all the info you need about image dimensions for the social media networks you use most. Check it out- it’s totally free!
