Internet Marketing Tips – Purchasing a Domain

This week’s tip comes from a reader asking “What do I need to know about registering a website address or domain name?”

Did you know:
It is important to take into consideration others’ business names and trademarks when you choose a website or domain name. Just because a domain name is available, it does not mean you are allowed to use it. You could face legal action and an otherwise avoidable headache by using someone else’s name – or even a website or domain name that is too similar to someone else’s name. You don’t want to be accused of trying to deceptively gain customers at someone else’s expense.

Tips:
When choosing website or domain names, be creative! Just because you cannot use a certain name for a website, come up with something that’s unique and catchy (and doesn’t infringe on an existing trademark or other intellectual property right). Conduct searches of the web (you can do this through the search engine on your Portal) to make sure your chosen name isn’t already in use and check out the relevant intellectual property databases, such as the one on the United States Patent & Trademark website. You’ll save yourself a world of headache in having to deal with any legal issues that may come up otherwise.

Remember: Market America distributors should consult their Career Manual to ensure that they are following all the Company’s Internet policies.

Sincerely,
Your Internet Marketing Manager
